Why I’m Running

My name is Britton Wolf.  I am a Christian, a Conservative Activist, an Ecclesiastical Leader, a Mentor, a High School Lacrosse Coach, and an Eagle Scout. I am a legacy member of Young Americans for Liberty; I am also a trained Conservative Activist by the Leadership Institute and the Foundation of Applied Conservative Leadership.

In August of 2017, I read an article published by The State, discussing the failed VC Summer Project. It caught my attention, so I decided to dig a little deeper. I learned about the Base Load Review Act (B.L.R.A.) and how that piece of legislation allowed our State’s energy providers to increase our energy rates -- SCE&G raised rates on their ratepayers nine times over the last decade!

I also learned that the B.L.R.A. is the reason that ratepayers are still on the hook for paying the electric providers for their $9 Billion failed nuclear reactors, the exact wording of the bill says "upon completion or abandonment."  Many South Carolinians pay 20% of their electric bill towards energy that was never produced by the reactors. This piece of Legislation also guaranteed the energy providers a profit each year at the expense of ratepayers!

This research then led me to the 2017 Gas Tax. Our State’s current gas tax is 16.75 cents per gallon of gas, but by July 1, 2022 our state will be paying 28.75 cents a gallon. Once this law takes full effect this will result in a $600,000,000 (annual) tax levied against South Carolinians. You can imagine my outrage when I learned only 7 of the 16.75 cents or 42% of money collected for road work actually goes to maintaining our State’s roads.  Why are we giving more money to SC Department of Transportation, through additional taxes, when they are not appropriately spending the money they get?  SCDOT needs more accountability, not more money to spend!

After doing this research, I checked to see how my current Representatives voted on these issues: Rep. Nathan Ballentine voted for the B.L.R.A. and the 2015 and 2017 gas taxes! That’s when I knew that somebody with true conservative principles needed to run against him. If throwing more money at the problem was going to fix it… Columbia, and Washington DC for that matter, would have been fixed a long time ago. We don’t need to increase the State’s Budget at the expense of hard working families in South Carolina.

Declaration of Faith

I am a Christian. I believe that God is my Creator and I know of His love and mercy. I know Jesus Christ and accept Him as my Savior. I am eternally grateful to Him for fulfilling His role in redeeming me of my sins.

God is the bestower of our rights and the author of our liberty, because ...where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corithians 3:17).  I believe that God created man to be free; to exercise his moral agency to choose between right and wrong, but to accept the consequences of his actions, whether they be positive or negative.

I know that God is concerned for the welfare of all of His children. At the age of nineteen, I left the United States to serve a mission in the jungles of Peru. God blessed me by accelerating my ability to learn the Spanish language so that I was able to more effectively teach the people that I served in Peru about Jesus Christ. At one point in my missionary service I was robbed, but because of his blessing of protection I was not physically harmed.

While serving in Peru, I became deathly ill and was hospitalized for three days. God blessed me by preserving my life and allowing me to receive the medical attention that I needed to overcome my illness. I know God to be a God of miracles, the healing that I experienced in Peru was nothing short of a miracle. It is my experience that God is merciful and watches over His children.

Because of my belief in God, as a Legislator I will vote to preserve the rights and the agency of my fellow man. I believe that I, along with all other Legislators, will one day be held accountable by our Creator for any and all abuses of political power.

Pledge on Taxes

I, Britton Wolf, pledge to the Citizens of South Carolina that I will: a) oppose all efforts to increase taxes upon individuals and/or businesses within our state; b) find areas within the South Carolina State budget to cut unnecessary spending and eliminate waste.
